The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) has given the go-ahead for the scheme, located at the gateway to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which will provide 32,500m² of workspace.
The project is the latest phase of a £2.4 billion joint venture development between developer Lendlease and London Continental Railways for the emerging business quarter masterplanned by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.
AFK’s designs are for a tower building – known as S4 – with ground-floor retail and first-floor leisure space as well as a large roof terrace.
Earle Arney, chief executive at AFK, said: ’Our design for S4 is inspired by Stratford’s industrial heyday and associated railway architecture, while also respecting the significant buildings by RSHP that already exist on the campus.

’The new building creates a link from the site’s heritage while also setting the scene for future buildings that will join this vibrant new quarter. Our design will be a robust and seemingly weathered addition to Stratford, enabling these visual “threads” to connect past and future.
The IQL is already home to the Financial Conduct Authority and Unicef, which moved their headquarters to 1 Westfield Avenue over the summer. They join Transport for London, which moved to its new building, 5 Endeavour Square, in September 2017.
Construction of the third commercial building is in progress, with space pre-let to Cancer Research UK and British Council.
Plans were also approved in July for an ACME-designed multistorey events pavilion, which will house the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park visitor centre, a café and two restaurants.
