BROCKTON – Council approved a request by the Brockton Heritage Committee that the Committee Heritage Reserve Fund be designated as a dedicated reserve fund to save money to house and showcase the heritage collection and to administer the heritage loan program.
The matter came before council at its previous meeting, but no formal vote was taken at that time. It was brought back for the vote.
Coun. Steve Adams asked about the amount of money in the reserve fund and the reason for the special motion.
Clerk Fiona Hamilton said there are two reserve funds attached to the committee, one of which is attached to a provincial program to provide loans for heritage properties. It isn’t being used much, she said.
The committee would like the reserve funds used to display the collection in a more suitable, accessible location. Presently it’s housed upstairs at the fire hall, and is not accessible.
“I think it’s a great motion,” said Coun. Kym Hutcheon. She suggested such a location for the collection might be at a future new municipal office.
