The YMCA of Oakville’s work to make their building compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) received a huge boost with a $51,000 grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
The grant, awarded through the Resilient Communities Fund, has helped the YMCA to retrofit and automate 13 doors throughout the facility ensuring safe and accessible entry to program areas, washrooms and change rooms on the main and second floors of the building and replace EXIT signage.
“These retrofits will provide an opportunity to ensure all members, especially those with mobility challenges and visual impairment, can safely access all program areas and exits throughout the facility,” the YMCA of Oakville says on its website.
“Ensuring accessibility is one way to remove potential barriers to physical activity and promote health and fitness to all.”
