The Oriska Valley Seniors met July 8 at the American Legion in Oriskany Falls. The guest speaker was Jean Ronan, assistive technology manager from TRIAD – Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities – in Utica, who talked about the program and how to use it at no charge to the user.
Short-term loans of equipment are 60 days and extensions are available to anyone of any age, with a temporary or permanent disability. Customers are able to sign out devices to use at home, at work, in school or in the community.
Some examples of products were demonstrated to provide help in the bathroom, bedroom, hands, mobility, kids, caregivers, hearing, vision and help with speaking.
Flyers were made available for the last two bus trips: Sept. 21 and 22 to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for the “Queen Esther” show at Sight ‘n’ Sound Theatre and an “Islands in the Stream Dolly and Kenny Tribute Show” Oct. 27 in Penn’s Peak, Pennsylvania in the Poconos. There are still openings available for both trips.
Anna and Eric Howard were recognized for their 51st wedding anniversary July 11.
The next meeting will be held at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at Quack’s Village Inn in Madison for a barbecue lunch followed by a business meeting and annual auction of items brought in by members at 1 p.m. Reservations for lunch are required in advance.
