Lombard Odier Group has partnered with Swiss foundation Access To Water to launch an impact investment solution, which will support water accessibility and quality in rural Senegal.
The Swiss company said that the newly launched impact investment solution is in line with shareholders’ growing appetite for investments that go beyond delivering financial returns, by having a positive impact on society.
The new partnership’s goal is to distribute 60m litres of clean water per year to over 83,000 people in rural Senegal, while also providing better resource management and improved sustainable water practices.
Access To Water already supports research and development of eco-friendly water solutions in partnership with Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, to eradicate water poverty in the affected regions.
Lombard Odier’s chief investment officer, Stéphane Monier, said: ‘At Lombard Odier we believe in the pressing need for a restructuring of our economic model, which is built on unsustainable foundations. We must transition to a more sustainable and regenerative future based on a circular, lean, inclusive and clean model.
‘Our partnership with Access To Water directly supports this aim, by helping to achieve the universal human right of clean and accessible water.’
The announcement follows Lombard Odier’s launch of four Target Net Zero funds in Q1 2021, while the partnership with Access To Water is the fourth project of its kind from the asset manager.
Previous initiatives include its collaboration on two impact solutions with Plastic Bank in 2020, to fund the collection of over 1,100 tons of ocean-bound plastic, as well as the asset manager’s support to ReforestAction in 2019 to plant 20,000 trees in Tanzania and Peru.
